Decatur County Hospital Administrator, Lynn Milnes, has announced
the total amount for the construction portion of the replacement
hospital $11,352.024.00.

As of January 2012, contributions for this project is $157,299.62.
Of that amount, $80,000 was pledged through the Decatur County
Hospital Auxiliary.  The donor wall will be an outstanding memorial
in the lobby of the new hospital.  There is plenty of opportunity to still
be part of this excitement.  Donations of $500 and up will be recognized
on the donor wall.

Construction is well underway.  Milnes is pleased to announce that the
parking lot outside the old main entrance of the hospital is now open.
It is expected that the Specialty Clinic, Lab, and Radiology patients will
use this new area along with the employees and visitors.  The south
entrance will continue to be used for Cardiac, Pulmonary, and Physical
Therapy patients.

We have been blessed, with obviously, very favorable weather.  The
exterior walls are being erected; the roofers are on site; the temporary
north wall is constructed, and erection of the steel work has been
completed with the exception of installing the decking for the remainder
of the building.  The interior studs are on site and are waiting for
the completion of the exterior walls. There is interior sheet rock
available for installation and the electrician and plumber are ready to
begin installation of actual equipment terminations up to the operating
room suite.  We will continue to strive to pour flooring and increase the
size of our workable space should winter conditions allow.

The helistop is in full operation and working well.

Doug Moffett, center, receives IHA Heroes Award from Gary Riedmann, left Board Chairman of the IHA, and Lynn Milnes Decatur County Hospital CEO, right.

Local Emergency Medical Technician recently recognized with an outstanding award by the Iowa Hospital Association.  Doug Moffett, EMT at the Decatur County Hospital was the recipient of the Iowa Hospital Heroes Award.  He received his award from Gary Riedmann, CEO of St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll and Board Chair of the Iowa Hospital Association during ceremonies held at the Marriott in downtown Des Moines on October 6th.
In March 2011, Decatur County Hospital was called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident with seven people involved and serious injuries.  Now as the fire chief in Leon and the surrounding community, Doug was preparing an old house to burn down for teaching purposes for the volunteer fire fighters when the call went out Doug canceled his plans and volunteered to go to the scene of the accident.  He managed four patients coming back to the hospital and took excellent care of them.
Doug was awarded the Above and Beyond Honor from Mercy for the wonderful job he did in March.  We at Decatur County are very proud of Doug.
Doug continues to serve Decatur County by doing a lot of volunteer work for his neighborhood and community.
