General Surgery procedures are performed weekly by our general surgeons: Dr. Dane Johnson and Dr. William Stanley. Other specialty surgical procedures are provided by: Dr. Hoisington, Dr. Ahnen, amd Dr. Kenney. Various general surgeries are performed at DCH as well as Ears, Nose, and Throat, Podiatry, and limited Orthopedic procedures.
Our surgery department is staffed with 6 RN's and 1 LPNCS tech, who are experienced in all aspects of surgery care. Many of our procedures are performed on an outpatient basis so our patients may return home the same day. From arrival until time of discharge, whether an inpatient or an outpatient, our focus is on patient comfort.

Cardiac Rehab is a program designed to help you recover from different kinds of heart surgeries or a heart attack. This is a monitored program supervised by nurses and overseen by a doctor. Cardiac Rehab gives you information on healthy lifestyle changes, dietary alterations, and risk factor modifications. We are available five days a week with adjustable time schedules. We want to take care of you and help you learn more, stay close to home, and get the services you need.

Decatur County Hospital offers many different heart and vascular related studies. We do stress tests five days a week and specialize in nuclear medicine cardiolytes on Fridays. Iowa Mobile Diagnostic (IMD) comes to do vascular studies on Tuesdays and echocardiograms on Thursdays. Emergency Medical Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our team of professional EMT's and Paramedics have been providing emergency care and transport for the ill and injured since 1970, and are the only emergency transport service available within Decatur County. The local Physicians, Emergency Practice Associates, and Nurses are advanced cardiac life support, (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), and trauma-certified.(TNCC). We have an emergency room to serve you that is equipped to handle emergencies from the smallest to the most critical. |

Inpatient Care at Decatur County Hospital offers a complete line of services for In Patient Acute, Skilled, Respite, Hospice and outpatient services including: Digital Mammography, Ultrasound, Mobile MRI, Iowa Mobile Diagnostics, Mobile Nuclear Medicine, and Infusion Therapy.

Infusion Therapy
Decatur County Hospital has included a dedicated Infusion Department. The department staff specializes in chemotherapy and PICC line care. The department is available Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm. With five bays that are equipped with recliners for the patient and sitting chairs for family.

Pharmacy
offers a wide range of both inpatient and outpatient services. Inpatient services include medication distribution including IV preparation. Outpatient services include IV infusions, such as Reclast and a host of other medications administered intravenously. Our pharmacist is trained and certified in preparation of IV chemotherapy.

Diagnostic imaging, CT Scanning, Digital Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine are all services provided at Decatur County Hospital. Our images are all interpreted by Diagnostic Imaging Associates, the Mercy Hospital Radiologist group, with 24/7 coverage for emergency readings. Our Technologists have 75+ years of experience, are ARRT registered, and certified by the State of Iowa in CT. The Mammography has been certified by the State for 20 years. We can provide medical imaging for you no matter where your physician is located.

The Rehabilitation Services
at Decatur County Hospital provides Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy. Our goal is to help our patients recover from illness or injury in order to return to a normal active lifestyle. Our staff is dedicated to providing the best care possible in a compassionate manner.
Therapy is initiated after a referral from your doctor. As a patient you are able to receive therapy in the setting that fits your needs. We provide care in the hospital as well as outpatient and home care. In the hospital, therapy is directed to facilitate your return home. If you are unsafe to go home and require further therapy, we are able to do this through our skilled program. Many times a patient may start with therapy in the hospital and then complete their rehabilitation program as an outpatient or in their own home.
Physical Therapists (PT) are hands on specialists that help decrease pain, restore function, and improve mobility. Services include: orthopeadic, joint replacement, neurological, arthritis, gait training, therapeutic exercises, pain management, balance impairments, wound care, lymphedema, and education on prevention of injury.
Occupational Therapists (OT) are creative specialists in facilitating independence with daily activities. Treatment may focus on: feeding, dressing, grooming, positioning, adaptive equipment, home safety,hand therapy, therapeutic exercises, splinting, and visual perceptual programs.
Speech Therapists are pathologists trained in treating speech disorders, language, and swallowing. Treatment may focus on: verbal and written expression, reading comprehension, slurred speech, stuttering, language delay, voice and/or swallowing disorders.

Respiratory Therapy
is all about improving your ability to breath freely and comfortably, to increase exercise tolerance, control or eliminate symptoms and decrease the anxiety and depression that is commonly associated with pulmonary disease.
Decatur County Hospital offers this in a comfortable, professional environment with expert staff. We have experience assisting patients recovering from: emphysema, asthma, lung transplant, vascular diseases, hypertension, and other chronic pulmonary conditions.
Respiratory Therapy also sets up sleep studies, if you are having trouble sleeping and have questions about sleep studies.

Skilled Rehabilitation
is a service available at Decatur County Hospital following an acute care hospital stay. Whether you are recovering from a surgery/illness that keeps you from returning home, or suffering from a neurological disease or stroke; you may qualify for skilled rehabilitation. You may require Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and/or Speech Therapy. The goals of our rehab team are to train and educate patients and families for a safe return home or to a prior level of function.
