LSVT BIG & LOUD

Do you or someone you know suffer from slow or decreased movement or difficulty speaking at full volume due to Parkinson’s Disease or a neurological condition?

Ask your doctor about a referral to Decatur County Hospital for our LSVT BIG® & LSVT LOUD® programs. These programs are proven to help regain normal function and movement for those suffering from neurological conditions, and help condition those with speech issues to better understand their speech volume and feel more comfortable using a stronger voice.

The LSVT BIG® program provides assistance for those living with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions to use their body in a more normal way. Those living with Parkinson’s Disease or other neurological conditions often suffer from a decrease in their regular actions and movements. These actions can take longer and become smaller as the condition progresses.

The LSVT BIG® program is designed to help those living with these conditions to retrain their brain and adjust movements to closer resemble their function before brain deterioration. This treatment program is customized for each patient, and is proven to help at any state of the condition.

Our program

LSVT BIG® is a standardized treatment which is customized to the unique needs of each patient. The program consists of 16 sessions over a 4 week course with sessions 4 consecutive days per week. Patients complete one-on-one sessions that are each 1-hour long, and have daily homework and carryover exercises to be completed on their own.

LSVT BIG® has been proven to cause improvement in the following areas:

  • Faster walking with bigger steps
  • Improved balance
  • Increase trunk rotation
  • Improvements in daily activities such as getting in and out of bed, eating, and dressing

The LSVT LOUD® program provides assistance for those living with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions to use their voice in a more normal way. Those living with Parkinson’s Disease or other neurological conditions often suffer from soft speech due to an inability to judge the volume of their own voice.

The LSVT LOUD® program is designed to help those living with these conditions to retrain their brain so they know how loud or soft they sound to others, and learn to use a stronger voice at a normal volume level. This treatment program is customized for each patient, and is proven to help at any state of the condition, with most success seen in those already in the moderate stages of the disease.
