Decatur County receives specialized equipment!

Decatur County Hospital Ward Clerk Ashly Green, Decatur County Hospital Hospital Chief of Support Services Jo Beth Smith and Decatur County Public Health Administrator Shelley Bickel display the Personal Protective Equipment which was donated to Decatur County.


Decatur County Public Health and Decatur County Hospital have received a donation of specialized Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from the Ottumwa Fire Department’s Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team – Southeast Iowa Response Group. The specialized equipment consist of protective suits and boots that may be used when dealing with patients that may have an infectious disease or contaminated with a hazardous material substance. A total of twenty sets of PPE, valued at over $5,000, were donated to Decatur County and will be distributed between the agencies.

The Decatur County Hospital has multiple personnel who are certified at the Hazardous Materials-Operations Level, with several of the personnel who have attended specialized training through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center for Domestic Preparedness, Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau and in-house training from staff of the Indianola Fire Department.
