DCH Corner – Physical Therapy Awareness Month

October is Physical Therapy Awareness Month. Decatur County Hospital Rehabilitation Services offer various types of physical therapy and related services. All of our therapists are highly trained and effective in their services.

Whether you are recovering from a fall, illness, or surgery, Decatur County Hospital Physical Therapy offers comprehensive and individual treatment plans to help you get back on your feet. We focus on improving mobility and improving your quality of life.

Depending on the situation, physical therapy can help you with flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and coordination.

Physical therapy may be recommended for the following: back and neck pain; orthopedic injuries including knees, ankle/foot, shoulders or hips; fractures; arthritic conditions, e.g., osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis; post-surgical rehabilitation; stroke rehabilitation; neurologic disorders; wound care; lymphedema; vestibular disorders (dizziness); pain management; sports injuries; and work-related injuries.

We also offer occupational therapy which focuses on helping people regain or learn new skills to improve their ability to function as independently as possible. Occupational therapists at DCH develop a personalized treatment approach for patients with conditions such as: stroke, traumatic brain injury, arthritis, neurological disorders, diabetes, Parkinson’s Disease, upper extremity disorders, work-related injuries, and sports injuries.

Each member of our Rehab Team has been certified by LSVT Global, Inc. to provide LSVT BIG® and LSVT LOUD® treatments.

The LSVT BIG® program provides assistance for those living with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions to use their body in a more normal way. Those living with Parkinson’s Disease or other neurological conditions often suffer from a decrease in their regular actions and movements. These actions can take longer and become smaller as the condition progresses.

The LSVT BIG® program is designed to help those living with these conditions to retrain their brain and adjust movements to closer resemble their function before brain deterioration. This treatment program is customized for each patient, and is proven to help at any state of the condition.

Additional services include Speech Therapy and Lymphedema care.
