After a recent survey by the State of Iowa, Decatur County Hospital was re-certified as a Level IV Trauma Center. After the successful completion of the survey, the state surveyor asked to use two of DCH’s processes within the program as a “template” for other hospitals in the state who might be struggling in those specific areas.

The respective governing boards of Wayne County Hospital (WCH) and Decatur County Hospital (DCH) have approved an agreement to allow WCH CEO Daren Relph to serve as the interim administrator at DCH while the hospital searches for a permanent chief executive officer.
June is National Aphasia Awareness Month. Aphasia is an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain-most commonly from a stroke, particularly in older individuals. But brain injuries resulting in aphasia may also arise from head trauma, from brain tumors, or from infections.
Sandy Dougherty was named the Decatur County Hospital 2018 DAISY award winner on Friday, May 11. Sandy was nominated by 2 different staff members and is very deserving of the award. She goes above and beyond for her patients and their families. Sandy will also be honored at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on June 15th. Sandy has been an RN at DCH since 2001. She works in Med/Surg and the ER. She lives in Leon.
Decatur County Hospital Chief Executive Officer Greg Boattenhamer has tendered his resignation at the hospital, effective May 25.

April is National Donate Life Month. Since 2003, organizations around the US have organized local, regional and national activities to help encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to celebrate those that have saved lives through organ and tissue donation.
