National Aphasia Awareness Month

June is National Aphasia Awareness Month. Aphasia is an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain-most commonly from a stroke, particularly in older individuals. But brain injuries resulting in aphasia may also arise from head trauma, from brain tumors, or from infections.

2018 DAISY Award

Sandy Dougherty was named the Decatur County Hospital 2018 DAISY award winner on Friday, May 11. Sandy was nominated by 2 different staff members and is very deserving of the award.  She goes above and beyond for her patients and their families. Sandy will also be honored at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on June 15th. Sandy has been an RN at DCH since 2001.  She works in Med/Surg and the ER. She lives in Leon.
