Blood is traditionally in short supply during the winter months—especially January—due to the holidays, travel schedules, inclement weather, and illness. A reduction in donor turnout can put our nation’s blood inventory at a critical low.
The greatest asset to Decatur County Hospital, and our ability to provide exceptional care, close to home, is our employees. Each year, we congratulate and thank employees celebrating a milestone in their service to DCH and our patients. As we near the end of the year, we want to recognize these employees who commit to our patients each day.
On December 14, 2012, the employees of Decatur County Hospital were performing tasks outside of their regular duties. Most of them were charged with moving boxes, furniture and supplies into the new hospital building. Five years later, it’s astonishing to look back at how far Decatur County Hospital has come, with many advances in services due to the new building.
As we near closer to the holiday season, we encourage you to take a few minutes to think about all the blessings in your life, and how fortunate you and your family are.

On September 12, we welcomed 30 attendees to the DCH cafeteria for our Dine with DCH event. The evening began with a celebration and presentation by the DCH Auxiliary. In 2011, the Auxiliary pledged $80,000 to DCH, and at the September 12 event, the remaining $5,000 of that commitment was presented.

The Decatur County Hospital Auxiliary is giving a sigh of relief. In 2011, we made a pledge to the New Hospital Fund for $80,000.00. Yes, $80,000.00. This would justify the space allocated to our ‘Just Because’ gift shop in the lobby.
Decatur County Hospital has recently added a new payment option to help you with your hospital or physician bills. DCH has partnered with HELP Financial to offer this service. HELP Financial Payment Plans are designed to offer you a payment choice of up to three years to pay your outstanding balance.
Decatur County Hospital is excited to announce that a new ambulance has been added to its emergency service fleet. The Horton’s Type I ambulance has superior construction, and can withstand a 90,000-pound load test. Horton ambulances have a history of more than 40 years of dynamic crash testing.
August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and we’re showing our support by providing information on vaccines for children, teens, preteens and adults. Getting vaccinated according to the recommended immunization schedule is one of the most important things a parent can do to protect their child’s health.
