DCH Corner – Physical Therapy Awareness Month

Each year, we celebrate October as Physical Therapy Awareness Month. The Decatur County Hospital Rehabilitation Services team offers various types of Physical Therapy and related services. All of our therapists are highly trained and effective in their services.

Whether you are recovering from a fall, illness, or surgery, our Physical Therapy team offers comprehensive and individualized treatment plans to help you get back on your feet.  We focus on improving mobility and improving your quality of life.

Depending on the situation, physical therapy can help you with flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and coordination.

Physical therapy may be recommended for the following: back and neck pain; orthopedic injuries including knees, ankle/foot, shoulders or hips; fractures; arthritic conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis; post-surgical rehabilitation; stroke rehabilitation; neurologic disorders; wound care; lymphedema; vestibular disorders (dizziness); pain management; sports injuries; and work-related injuries.

We also offer Occupational Therapy, which focuses on helping people regain or learn new skills to improve their ability to function as independently as possible. Occupational therapists at DCH develop a personalized treatment approach for patients with conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, Arthritis, neurological disorders, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, upper extremity disorders, work-related injuries, and sports injuries. Pediatric Occupational Therapy is also available to help children with handwriting, eating properly, sitting through class, staying on task, and other socialization behaviors.

Our Rehabilitation Services Department also offers Speech Therapy, LSVT Big & Loud for patients with Parkinson’s, neurotherapy, women’s pelvic floor rehabilitation, and vestibular therapy.
