Help Us Celebrate

On December 14, 2012, the employees of Decatur County Hospital were performing tasks outside of their regular duties. Most of them were charged with moving boxes, furniture and supplies into the new hospital building. Five years later, it’s astonishing to look back at how far Decatur County Hospital has come, with many advances in services due to the new building.

Our outpatient clinic capacity has increased to offer a wider range of services, on a more regular basis. The rehab department has expanded to offer more services, using the latest equipment; and now offers lymphedema and wound care. Patient rooms are more private, including a private bathroom and shower, and a bariatric room is available when required. Room service is now available from our cafeteria. A dedicated hospice family room has also been added.

Our Emergency services area has been expanded, and a new state-of-the-art ambulance has been added to the fleet. With more space, we now have an endoscopy room, a dedicated infusion area, and dedicated recovery rooms for same day surgery patients. Our expanded surgery suite allows for top-of-the-line surgery services using the latest technology, and more options for appointments. Other enhanced and new services include PET scans, accredited sleep studies, and a cardiac rehab exercise program.

During the fundraising events for the new hospital, the Decatur County Hospital Auxiliary pledged $80,000 to help with construction, and to include the construction an on-site gift shop. The Auxiliary has fulfilled that pledge, and members continue to do great service and fundraising to serve the needs of DCH.

When looking back after five years, it’s sometimes hard to remember how far we’ve come. During our Dine with DCH Event on Thursday, December 14, we will display photos of the old hospital building outside the corresponding areas in the new building. These photos give us a sense of great accomplishment to see how far we’ve come.

Please join us for Dine with DCH on Thursday, December 14, starting at 5 pm to tour the hospital, enjoy some snacks, and learn what we have on the horizon for the next five years. Come celebrate with us, and learn all about our exceptional care, close to home.
