Courtesy Van Marks 1000th Ride Milestone

The Decatur County Healthcare Courtesy Van continues to be a well-used service by patients seeking services at Decatur County Hospital, Community Health Centers of Southern Iowa, and Decatur County Public Health. At the beginning of 2020, these three organizations partnered to purchase and operate a free transportation service for established patients in Decatur County.

On July 23, 2020, the Courtesy Van hit a milestone when it reached its 1,000th ride. As of the end of July, the van has provided rides to residents from eight (8) different cities/townships in Decatur County, traveling more than 15,000 miles.  The end of July marked the 28th week of operation for the community transport service.

This service is a direct result of public input received during the Community Health Needs Assessment, and addresses a major issue with transportation for Decatur County residents. To schedule a ride, Decatur County residents can contact Decatur County Public Health. Scheduling is done on a first come first serve basis. At least a 24 hour notice is required, and patients may call 1-844-782-5420 to reserve their trip. Transportation is offered between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m from Monday-Friday.
