Decatur County Hospital Expansion Takes Shape

At Decatur County Hospital, we’re entering an exciting phase in the process to construct our new expansion. The ~8,500 square feet of new space will provide a new home for our DCH Outpatient Clinic. Included in the expansion will be eighteen (18) exam rooms (including two [2] procedure rooms), a new surgical suite, and a separate waiting room for DCH Outpatient Clinic patients. Due to the conservative financial management of the hospital’s income and expenditures, there will be no impact on property taxes for our community members. The expansion will be funded with revenue bonds, and will not increase our property tax levy.

As we continue to plan the best layout for this addition, we are focused on ease of access, patient privacy, ample space for continued growth, and proximity to other hospital services. The expansion will be placed on the east side of the hospital. Once complete, DCH Outpatient Clinic patients will be able to park near the entrance to the new building, and avoid the need to enter through the main hospital door. This will allow a more efficient flow of patient traffic for both outpatients and those visiting for other hospital services.

The expansion has been designed to fit in seamlessly with the existing building. The exterior brickwork will match the existing building, simple landscaping will offer a warm and welcoming entrance to the facility, and the new waiting area is much larger than our current space and features large windows to allow in ample light. Patient rooms will feature state-of-the-art equipment to meet the needs of our specialty providers. Multiple will rooms within the new building will feature advanced telehealth equipment for those patients who request to utilize it.
