Major Developments in the New DCH Outpatient Clinic Take Shape

In the last months, a few of the most exciting updates to the new DCH Outpatient Clinic have taken place. These updates bring us closer to the opening of this new space to the public.

First, large windows were installed in the new lobby. These large windows will allow an abundance of natural light into the waiting room area to make patients and visitors feel welcome and comfortable. The natural light and the high ceilings in this area will make the area seem open, airy, and expansive.

To further promote comfort, the second major step taking place is the arrival of our new furniture. The furniture for our new lobby has started to arrive, and furniture for our new exam rooms is expected soon. In the new waiting area, multiple seating options will be available. When you visit, you’ll be able to choose from traditional chairs, benches, pub height chairs, and even a booth. Increased table space will also be available to utilize if you are waiting in the lobby for a loved one.

The third exciting update is more behind the scenes, but very important. The new air handlers that will control the climate of the new building have been installed on the roof. These air handlers ensure that the new building maintains a comfortable temperature, promotes healthy air flow, and provides a consistent environment for our patients and providers. We hold ourselves to a high level of expectation for comfort, and top-of-the-line mechanical systems help us live up to that expectation.

The fourth new development, which we plan to roll out when the new clinic opens, is an electronic patient management system. This system is called Phreesia (pronounced freesh-ya). With Phreesia, you will be able to do a multitude of things as you prepare for your appointment including: 1) completing your new patient paperwork ahead of your appointment, 2) completing questionnaires we may need for your follow up appointments, 3) updating your prescriptions as soon as they change, 4) checking in for your appointment when you are on your way (or right when you arrive), 5) checking your insurance coverage for your appointment or procedure, and 6) reviewing your co pay and paying it online or using one of our secure tablets.

In addition to allowing you to complete paperwork ahead of time, this system will also allow our clinic staff to communicate with patients directly via text and email for appointment reminders, appointment scheduling, and follow up communication from providers. This new system will help us better manage our patient flow as we move into the expanded building, and as we get used to the increased patient visits that we expect as we continue to evolve to meet your needs.

Our primary goal with this new building is to provide access to the specialists you need, who provide the care you deserve. At Decatur County Hospital, our focus is YOU. Patient satisfaction is at the center of every addition, upgrade, or new service that we plan. The new DCH Outpatient Clinic is set to open later this year, and a grand opening will be announced at a later date.

As we continue the process to finalize this upgrade, we extend our gratitude to our patients, community members, and visitors who have shown great support for this project. We are so proud to be your local hospital, and look forward to continuing to provide exceptional care, close to home.
